Kids Birthday Party in an Apartment: Tips for Working Around Limited Space

Limited space isn't a reason for a party to be less fun. With the right layout, an apartment unit or function room can be used to the fullest.

Make Use of the Building's Hall or Function Room

Many apartments in Jakarta and surrounding areas have a hall or function room that can be rented separately from a residential unit. This space is usually far roomier for decoration and games than a unit, and avoids the risk of damaging personal furniture. Check the hall's availability schedule well in advance, since it's usually shared among residents and fills up fast on weekends.

Arranging Decoration for a Limited Space

For an apartment unit with limited room, vertical decoration like a tall balloon arch or a wall-mounted backdrop is more efficient than decoration that eats up floor space. Move large furniture out first, and use the kitchen or pantry area as the cake table zone so the main area stays open for kids to move around.

Adjusting Games and Guest Count

Games with big movements, like running relays, should be swapped for a more stationary version — a sitting quiz, or hand games like a balloon relay without running. Cap your guest count to a realistic capacity for the space — for a standard unit, 10–15 kids is usually the max for comfort. Also let building management know about your event plans to avoid noise complaints from neighbors.
